Moussavi standing firm
Mir Hussein Moussavi, disregarding Iran's certification of Ahmedinejad's electoral victory as final, has refused to back down.In a new statement from his website, he referred to the vote count as "illegitimate," called for electoral reforms, press freedoms, and the release of all political prisoners. One of the other presidential candidates, Mehdi Karroubi, also issued a statement on his own website, saying in part, “I don’t consider this government legitimate."Moussavi’s ongoing defiance of the authorities has prompted the Basij militia to demand his prosecution on nine charges, including “disturbing the nation’s security,” which carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence.Labels: brutality, election, free speech, Iran, vote
