"United Fist"

The protests may have been largely squelched, but the rhetoric from Iran grows sharper. Ayatollah Ali Khameini, in a speech in Tehran today, said Western governments

“must be careful with their hostile comments and actions because the people of Iran will react,” and that interference from foreigners “will undoubtedly have a negative impact on the future of relations between the Islamic republic and them. All the heads of arrogant countries should know that when the enemy is at hand, even with the existence of some differences of opinion, the people of Iran will unite when faced with the enemy and will become a united fist against them.”

I would suggest that should the Iranian people decide to form a fist, it will be the noses of an autocratic regime that will be stinging.

Interestingly, France's president, Nicolas Sarkozy, fired back, simply saying

"Really, the Iranian people deserve better than the leaders they have today."

Sarkozy made the remarks at a meeting with British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, vowing to stand with Britain in its standoff with Iran.
